Hi,

I currently have a six month old Dane pup who is going into surgery tomorrow morning to be spayed and gastropexied. I was just wondering what your views were on the gastropexy procedure. Our vet highly recommended it for our Great Dane.

It is quite acceptable to have the gastroplexy op while the bitch is having other surgery, as a preventive measure. What does go against general consensus is having the bitch speyed at such an early age. It is my opinion that most vets in the UK will let the bitch have a season and then spey after three months. That way the bitch can mature normally before all the hormones are upset. Would you have a child of 10 speyed? I would think hard before allowing it.
