QUESTION: So he weighs about 30 punds right now and we were feeding him 4 cups a day. And his legs started going bow legged so we cutt back his food to 2 1/2 cups a day? should we still be feeding him more?

ANSWER: If he is starting to get bow legged I would possibly switch him to a different food. What kind are you currently feeding him and what is the protein content of the food...It may not be so much as how much you are feeding him, but what the quality of the food is...

I can give you more specific details if you provide me with some more information on his current nutrition.

QUESTION: Well we are feeding him Iams and its protein based I am not sure what the protein content is in it ! what kind of dog food would you consider we use ?

Answer
Well with a Great Dane, you want to AVOID a high protein base...your puppy should be eating an adult food with a protein content of no more then 25%. You have a few options to choose from. You can use Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Adult, Nutro Natural Choice Herring Formula, Nutro Natural Choice Sensitive Stomach, you can also try Fromm Holistic, California Natural or Solid Gold...these foods are a bit pricey, but in the long run, will give your puppy the nutrition he/she needs and will not impact their growth in a negative way. I would look into changing the food as soon as possible, if you are saying his legs are beginning to bow out, this can lead to SERIOUS medical defects in the future.
