Question
Hi, i'm going to be getting a great dane pup in 6weeks and was wondering about a raw diet for him? i'm looking into it for my other dogs but he will be so little. what would i start him on? Also what age do you get them fixed? thank you

Answer
Dogs should be castrated from ten months onwards and bitches speyed after their first season.

DO NOT LET THE VET PERSUADE YOU TO HAVE IT DONE EARLIER AS IT STOPS THEM MATURING.

There is no good physical reason for doing it that early.

I presume you mean RAW diet, one of the latest fads.  We use raw, minced tripe and a good complete food, which we wet with gravy.  Do not buy the most expensive dry foods as the cost of heavy advertising is passed on to you.  And don't use the food sold by the vet, it is not better just adding to their profit.
