Question
hello, ive been wanting a great dane for some time now, but my family members think that the great dane will hard our animals.

we have 8 chickens, 2 goats, and 2 potbelly pigs.

would the great dane pose a threat to them.? or does their name gentle giants go for this too.?

Answer
Kasadee,

I do not think that a Great Dane would pose a threat to them. Although originally bred for boar hunting, this sport has long been eliminated from the breed.

If you get one as a puppy, and he/she grows up around other animals, there should not be a problem.

The bigger concern is getting one from a reputable breeder. This breed is predisposition-ed to numerous health problems, so going through a good breeder is a MUST!

If you get a dog from a breeder that is not breeding for temperament, soundness, and structure, you may have problems with the Dane and your other animals, so that would be the most important thing to do if you do look into getting one in the future.
