great dane very fat but can see bones

QUESTION: Ok, I had 2 danes, we had to get rid of them cuz one was a chewer, so to be fair I got rid of mine..Rommee.The one lives on a lake the other one the people called this past weekend saying they were moving and wanted to know if I wanted her back. I said yes. OMG! She looks hiddeous, she has no chest anymore, very fat stomach, but you can count and see every bone in her body. She is eatting well and not sick, going to the bathroom and seems very happy to be HOME.I've never in my life seena dane like this, is this prro nutrition? A desease? I need help . she is going in for an ultrasound today I just wondered if anyone has experienced this?

ANSWER: Sounds like worms or cancer to me but wait and see what the vet says.  Let me know.

QUESTION: Hi Ken,
She was tested for cancer and had xrays yesterday all ok, no worms either.. Can a dane get this look from not eatting? Cud a diet and neglect do this>? She looks like she is from Cambodia..?I am so worried.Thanks alot
ANSWER: Sounds like neglect then.  Start feeding several small meals a day until she is back to normal/healthy6 looking.

QUESTION: well we took Rommee to the specialists and they say she has PLE..Protein losing enteropathy and claims she has 3 monthes to live..I find this hard to believe she runs- eats-plays-sleeps alot cuz of the extra weight in her gut, but her personality is awesome. I don't want to give up on her he says to feed her tuna and potato and give her a baby aspirin for the inflamation to let her be comfy until she passes..? So don't know if you have experience with this, but after paying 800 some odd dollars I don't see just giving up on her.Please let me know anything you know..I appreciate it much. I may go with the baby aspirin. antibiotic- and high protein food from my vet and just wait a couple of weeks and see what it does for her, but if it a lost cause I guess I need to know what to do..Any suggestions.? I've never heard of PLE but I'm not a vet.

Have you tried worming her?  If she has been where there are sheep or cattle she may have picked something up.

We don't beleive in high protein foods, 18 - 20% is sufficient for danes as the high protein can cause growth problems.

You will see from out diet sheet how we feed our show dogs and they are in the peak of condition.
