Puppy dental problems - base narrow canines

Question
I just received a 12 week old Great Dane puppy.  When I took her to the vet she told me that her lower jaw is base narrow with the lower canines hitting the roof of her mouth (overbite).  The vet mentioned that it may be just a picture in time and that the lower jaw's growth may "catch up".  Is this at all common or likely in a Great Dane puppy?  From the bit of research that I have done, it appears that correcting this condition is necessary and expensive.  Any information on this subject with respect to Danes would be appreciated.

Most dogs are 'overshot' more so when they are younger.  The lower jaw grows more than the top one and so the bite will probably level up.  If the bite is level now it will be overshot when it finishes growing.  Overshot is like a boxer and will not give the characteristic dane profile.

I would have thought your vet would have know about growth patterns!
