Great Dane Has feet problems

Question
Nothing seems to help, my Great Dane is a possible distemper survivor. Her pads are cracked & dry, when putting ointment instead of the paws just getting soft they got feathered which when you run your finger over the pad they would separate.  So I stopped all ointments.  I keep booties on her for outside, I live in the desert of AZ not outside the city. I don't know what else to do and at this time I can't afford my Vet to perform surgery to file some of the worst pads & to perform a Biopsy.  I did have a blood test & she is clear of any problems.  I've been looking the Internet to try and find out what I can do.  This is a very special Dane, her name is Amy.  I am hoping that you may have a suggestion.  I have pictures of Amy's paws but they don't show clearly her condition.  They are yellow in color, some of the pads look  Calloused, another pad is over growned tot he side of her paw & others have a feathered look to them. One area is black like it should be, another the pad is worn off and bare skin.

Answer
Keep the bootees/booties on her for a while.  With any luck new skin should grow through, like with scar tissue.

I would try just pure vaseline or petroleum jelly as it is sometimes called.  This is not medicated but is just greasy, although too much may soften the pads.

As an alternative try human hand cream, if it's safe for you it should be OK for her.

Sorry I can't be more help but we never see distemper over here, it has been eradicated by vaccination.
