Menstrual Cycle

Hi,
My bulldog has gotten her period. I was wondering how long her period lasts ? What do you recommend to use as a sanitary napkin during her time of month. I tried diapers she hates them and rips them off. Any ideas? Also I had emailed you a few days ago. I have just gotten her ( she was penned up for a year) She sometimes displays aggressive behavior and gets extremely nervous when strangers are around. She wont go after anyone but if they try to pet her she will give them a snap not towards then but she does snap. I have only had her a week and I know she is just nervous but do you think this could be a potential problem or do you thing she will be ok once she is more socialized. Should i get her in classes right away ? thanks so much for all you help.

OK...let's take a step back. First of all, this dog should be spayed as soon as her heat cycle is over. This hormone overload on top of all the stress related to a change of homes, plus coming from a kennel situation into a home, it more than the dog should be expected to tolerate in one dose.

Keep strangers away from her if she's uncomfortable right now. You need to gain her confidence before you can expect her to accept anyone else. She doesn't trust anyone right now and rightfully so. Let her get through this heat, get her spayed, and then take her to classes.

For the time being, keep the traffic to a minimum, be patient with her and don't push people on her. Just let her relax and settle in. If you need to crate her, do it. She will feel more secure as well.
