Boston Terrier skin problems

Question
Sassy is my 4 year old Boston terrier and she is wonderful!  However, she has always had very thin hair. Not in spots but generally all over.  She is especially itchy on her neck, tummy, and between her toes.  She does not have fleas or mites or mange.  We have only fed her two types of food since we've had her.  We fed her Pedigree and then were told to change her to a lamb/rice formula to see if that would help.  She has been eating Califonia Natural Lamb/Rice for a year and she still has problems.  She is somewhat better but still miserable at times.  If she has food allergies what food do you suggest?  If she has seasonal allergies is there something I can give her?  I do know that when she rolls around in the grass in the summer she breaks out in a rash so I try to prevent her from contact with grass.  I am at my wits end.  She also has bad gas.  We DO NOT feed her any table food whatsovever.  She eats and drinks well and gets lots of exercise.  She is indoors 99% of the time but she loves to play fetch with her toys.  She also tends to stink only a few days after bathing. I had a Boston when I was a little girl and she never seemed stinky.  I try not to bathe her too often (2x/month) so her skin does not get too dry.  Her skin just does not seem healthy.  The vets only suggestion is the lamb/rice diet.  Please help my balding baby!

Answer
Hello and thank you for your questions, your little girl seems to ahve siamler issues as my Hannah'. I strongly reccomend  any food that is fish and potatoe I feed my two terreris Hannah the boston terrier and Luke the jack russell terrier Blue Buffalo ocean fish and sweet potatoe recipe...they love it and it has helped there alergies very very much. I know Pro plan by purina makes a fish/potatoe dog food as well. You can give a Benadryl 25 ML allergy pill(for people) to her in the morning or evening, you can give one every 12 hours for a maximum of two in 24 hours but if I give my little girl two she gets drowsy so at best we try stick to one every morning to help her itchiness. Your dog may be allergic to the grass if she gets very bad in the summer months due check into having allergy tests done. Simple bathes of cool not warm water with plain eatting oatmeal in it work wonders for my terriers....just pour the oatmeal water over and over the dog and rinse with plain water...dont let the water get too cold you can add some warmer water during the soke but dont use warm water the cool water in the innical water as the cool water soothes the itchy skin. Do the cool water oatmeal bathes no more then 1X per week or you might make her itchier because of drying her skin out. I'm not sure what can be done about the body smell...my own trio of dogs have no body odor unless they are damp from playing in thw snow/if its raining when there out ect ect. You can get vitamins/ills from petshops to help with gas and stool odors however. Best of luck.
