Question
my Boston terrier just had 8 pups, 1 did not make it. she had 5 male and 3 females. is this normal for her to have had so many? also she attacks the papa dog every time he tries to get near, how can we stop this? is there any kind of diet to help her produce more milk, we are afraid that with so many there won't be enough for all 7? my last question i heard you have to have their tails cropped, but they hardly have one is this correct?

Answer
Hi Susie,

Congradulations!!!  Depending on the size of the female, litters range from 4-8 or so. You may need to get supplement puppy formula if you feel concerned. You just need to make sure she gets plenty to eat. You can give her some dairy stuff.
The tails do not need to be docked!!  Some may be longer or shorter, but the size matters only for show.
Her babies are new, she doesn't want any other dogs around. This is normal.
You are just the " nervous new parent" Not to worry, mom's instinct rules.
Best wishes,
Lisa
