6 months boston terrier with leg pain on back will not place foot on ground

have any suggestions as to what could have happened I have no idea how he hurt his leg.

Hi Brenda, Well, you can wait a day or two and see.  PUPS tend to bounce back very quick!
I would think he pulled a muscle or ligament.  
You can call your local vet for an exam and possible x-trays.
