I have a male Boston he is 1 yr old and I just purchased a female she is only 8 weeks old. I heard I should wait until her second season to mate. Is that true? or shall I wait longer?

Yes, Emma, she should be 18 months or older which will be 2 heats.
BEST to wait until she is 2 if possible.
Also, talk to your vet because many times Bostons need to have C-sections...
