Question
I will be getting a new b/t puppy around the first week of august. It's a male and 9 weeks old as of today. So he will be around 14-15 weeks when I bring in home. I already have a 2 year old Boxer. Question is..how do I introduce my boxer to his new baby brother. I saw on The Dog Whisper that you let them smell each others behind. Is this the proper way?

Answer
Hello first let me say congrats on the new puppy Boston's are very sweet little dogs. I introduced my lab to jack russell puppy this way; Had my lab in her crate brought the puppy down and let her smell him through thee crate bars...after that seemed ok I let her out but had her leashed so i could pull her away if she snapped or anything...my jack russell was very scared of her as he was so small, After that went ok I removed the leash and put the puppy on the floor(My sister was holding him by this time) and they have been best friend ever since. Introducing my boston terrier to my other two was simple...I showed her to them while they were crated left them outside and went out with my boston terrier I held her for a few minutes and let them smell her and then I Put her down...my dogs seemed afraid of her because of the snorting/snorling noises she was making and I don't think either had seen a dog with such a flat muzzle before. It took several weeks for my dogs to get used to the Boston and my jack russell terrier was extremly jelus for about 6 weeks. My best advice is try as I have this worked great for me and also be sure to pay the same amount of attention to the older dog as you have eben becaue jeluesy can lead to fights, also you need to make sure they have there own food bowls and two sets of the same toys...two crates and two beds this will minimize bickering. Also don't leave them unsupervised during the first week you want to be sure that the boxer isnt going to turn on the puppy for touching its toys when your back is turned. Best of luck with your new puppy.
