Question
I have a 15 month old female.  She is a very playful dog, but more comfortable with humans unless she really knows the other dog.  She is not aggressive but sometimes a bit timid.  Are Bostons better same sex companions or would getting a male at this point be best?  What would be the difference btwn getting a puppy or an adult and how would it effect my dog?  Thanks Jason

Answer
Hello Jason and thank you for your questions,

A male would deffinitly be better thou I have a female boston livingwith a male ajck russell terrier and female labrador retreiver in my house without problems....the boston terrier is a dog agressive dog just like jack russell terriers or pit bull terriers(aka pitbulls). Getting another female even a puppy with a dog agressive breed female wouldnt go so well....at lest I dont think so. Getting a freshly weaned male would be the best idea as opsied to getting an adult male. I just find that whenever I bring a pupyp home everyone takes to it my brother brought his 5 month old shepard cross over one day to visit with him and he had to go back home with her, There is an inacence about puppies that makes the older dogs be kinder to them...supossibly they have a puppy scent that means 'i'm a little puppy please don't hurt me', the scent is normaly gone by 4 months and then the puppy isnt protected by this scent anymore and must be more careful around the adult dogs. Introducing them should go well I always do this; leave my adult dogs in there crate and bring the puppy over and let them sniff through the cage bars after thats gonig ok with no growling or hair standing i let them out and hold the puppy talking to them all to break teh sileance and let them know the puppy is ok and is now a memeber of the family, I'll be sure to use my free hand to pet them older dogs and be sure they know I still love them if this is going well with no growling or snpping or hair standing i place the puppy on the floor and let them sniff at him or her if this is ok I just keep watching and then offer the puppy some toys(I normaly offer food shortly after they arrive home from the breeders but not where the other dogs can get to them) once the puppy is playing and the other dogs standing by or sitting watching I know all is well espesily once the puppy gets up the nerve to come sniff and play with the other dogs with the other dogs responding well with play attmeps or without agressivness.... It was quite funny when I brought my boston terrier puppy home 'Hannah' was so tiny compaiered even to the Jack russell terrier male I'd gotten a year anda  half before and when she bowed down and starting barking at my 80 pound lab I couldnt help but laugh and ever since her first day home Haylie my labrador retereiver loves her my jack russell terrier has gotten to know her and tolerates her he was ever so jelus when she came home I could swear he become depressed but about 2-3 months ago he relized she was he to stay and he had to get over himself and be happy! This shrot story proves even dog agressive dogs can live together well and dogs of different sizes, Best of luck with whatever you chose and happy holidays.
