adverse drug interaction on a 11lb pekingese

Question
Can you give a 11 lb Pekingese the following 2 medications simultaneously
.25 Fentanyl Patch
Hydromorphone .1 1/2 IN IV 1/2 Sub, 2 doses in 24 hours?

Will this dosage be too high for the type and weight of this breed?

I am concerned about respatory depression, or lung aspiration

Answer
The fentanyl patch can take 12-24 hours to start to absorb in the system, so often times alternative pain medication may be given until the fentanyl starts to work. I do not know the dose for hydromorphone off the top of my head because I have never used that medication. If respiratory depression occurs, you can always take off the patch.
