Question
Can i keep a male & female betta together in a tank or is this a no no. How do you breed bettas. I am just curious. It would be fun to try once. Its just out of curiousity. I really want to thank you for emailing me back on my platy question. Thanks so much for getting back right away & being able to answer all my questions!

Answer
Hi Sharon;

I'm glad I could help!

Bettas need to be separated unless actually in the act of spawning. Each fish needs to be conditioned for a few weeks to be mature and ready before they are placed in the same tank. Once they spawn, the female must be removed or she could be killed by the male who cares for the eggs and babies. Here is more about their breeding habits and setups for them;
