Red Dwarf Gourami with strange growth

Question
I am sorry , I didn't mean to be rude, but I have already contacted my local stores to no avail. I guess I expected something more scientific, and am truly sorry if I was rude.

I only resorted to this site after many late night searches, and as a last resort.  I have three degrees in science (biochemistry) and it does not seem to be a tumor, since there is a thread like thing coming out of the tissue, and the tissue is slightly ooozy, not like a tumour at al.  I am in midtown nyc, the local pet store has uneducated staff, (ie didn't know a cory was a catfish! and no help at all).  When you referred me to them it was as if you said to me, I have no idea what to do, because they sure don't!  I will continue my research.  Thanks Sherry

on/near left side of it's mouth. (just near his 'lips' but not on mouth).  When I first purcahsed him, thought I saw a little tiny almost clear white 'thread' and pimply type bump, (thought parasite) but since I had never owned Gourami's prior wasn't sure.

Now it is clear something is not right, as there is a mass, or growth which is best described as a cauliflower type look to it.  Hard to tell about colouring but since on silver area near head area, slightly more muddied colour, pinkish/greyish and not healthy looking tissue.

It is difficult to get a clear look as he is swimming all over the place, fins are fine, eating fine.  I took him out of community tank right away, and realized two week quarantine was not correct.

I have done research and discovered gourami's not well taken care of in breeding practices.  None the less, I would like to give him a shot at survival.  I think (but not sure) in certain light I see those little threads, almost like extra small clear nylon thread sticking out of bumps... lumpy, bumpy.... Any help most appreciated.

I treated with salt, and clout until further notice.

Sincerely,

Sherry

<Water pm's aok, all rest of fish fine, in long established, anubias - driftwood planted tanks.  He was a new purchase...>

Sherry,
I do know about fish tumors. Fish stores have things to treat them. They are caused by bacterial infections. I think your comment to me was very rude. You could have just asked more about it instead of making me feel bad. I'm sorry if I didn't help enough I really am,
