Hi
i have a 46g tank fully cycle with live plants and driftwood. I have a 405 fluval and a whisper 60. In that tank there are two red blood parrot cichlid and two angel and two small rainbowfish and a butterfly pleco. They all get along well. can i add two dwarf gourami to my tank?
thank you

Answer
Quan,    In my opinion you tank is loaded. If you overstock this tank it won't let your parrots flourish. These are man made fish and I know they are hardy but can be delicate too. These guys and your angles are going to get some size to them in this tank if you don't overstock. You do know that pleco is going to grow and grow no matter what. So about the time he is too big everyone will be ready for a tank change. Your rainbows are just biding their time with them angles.....lol....or maybe not you never know there are tons of exceptions and I have seen them. I know if they are small your tank looks empty but , these guys grow fast. Do not overfeed. Make sure they have the right supplements for your cichlids I would use some aquarium salt. Do not use 1tspn per ten. Just put about 2 1/2 tspns in there so your parrot can regulate the salt in their body they need and it is great parasitic for your other guys too!!!This is a mineral and does not evaporate from your water. It is only removed through water changes and estimate the amount of water taken out and replace. I would feed a couple frozen peas thawed under water once a week. Crack the shell and take it out later. It tends to stop constipation, bladder infections and is like a mild natural antibiotic. Your angles are like puppies and will overfeed and cause fat to build up and lower their life span. I would feed a pellet for your parrots and frozen or live food for your angles especially. Flat packs of blood worms are the easiest to adjust the amount. Run the open side of the pack under water for a sec to get them loose. Then add to tank a few at a time till they get a few a piece. I would try to feed them small amounts three times a day if they are young twice a day if they are larger. I would feed them live brine shrimp also for them to exercise and eat like they do in the wild. Very easy no food waste cause they are alive until eaten. You just go to the pet store and buy brine shrimp eggs. They are cheap. Go get a fish bowl and put some in there. They will hatch net them out and throw them in your tank. Your pleco you can always throw an algae wafer in now and then maybe every few days. You should have big beautiful fish soon!!!!!!! You keep them parrots healthy and let the tank grow with them and their water quality well I have seen them almost as big as dinner plates. Have fun and Good Luck, Tina
