Question
QUESTION: Hi. I was wondering our Betta's fin is still white and I was wondering should we use Maracyn Two to treat the fin rot? My Betta is in a 10 gallon tank with a heater at 82 Fahrenheit. The ammonia is 0 nitrites 0 and nitrates 0. The finrot does not seem to be getting better. We used Marcayn two and melafix before fore a week each and no improvement. Thanks Linda

ANSWER: Hi Linda,
Fin Rot is caused by poor water conditions, stress, outdated food, crowded tanks, unsuitable tank mates, and even the PH if not right for your Betta.  We must find the cause.  You will have to do a water change,  and treat with a good antibiotic.
His fin rot is persistant so he needs a good antibiotic such as Tetracycline.
Hope he gets well soon.

QUESTION: Would that be maracyn TC. Where would I buy that? I sent you a pic from my cel of the fin. Thanks

ANSWER: Hi!
Poor little guy!  You can buy maracyn TC at the Pet Store.  This should be good for him.  Where I live the Tetracycline capsules are hard to find, and I must buy them at the vets.  Sometimes the store manager will have some...or an antibiotic which is the equivalent.  Ask him, and he will give you a good antibiotic for your pet.  Tell him he has fin, and tail rot.
Keep me posted on how he is doing.

QUESTION: One more question. Do I have to lower the water level in the aquarium before medicating and do I have to remove the gravel or ornaments? Thanks Linda

Answer
Hi Linda,
No, you do not have to lower the level of your tank, or remove the ornaments.  You don't want to stress the betta at this time, and this would stress him.  He also needs things in his tank to rest on.  Medicate following the instructions for a 10 gallon tank, and don't forget to remove your carbon as this will remove the medication if you leave it in your filter.
