Red Terror & Salvini (Yellow-Belly) Cichlid

Question
Hi,

I have recently introduced a group of Yellow-Belly Cichlids to my 500ltr tank - the yellow-bellies are still juvenile - around 3 inches long.  Amongst others there is a very docile female Red Terror - approx 7 inches.  Everyone is getting along fine, more so than I expected!! It appears one of the Salvini's has taken a shine to the Red Terror and vice versa - they are inseperable!! They are exhibiting typical 'nesting' behaviour - digging out a nest under some rocks etc etc - seems as if they have made this territory their own now.

I was wondering if this is something that you have encountered before? Whether any viable fry could be produced? Other examples of different species of fish coupling up?!

Thanks for your help - look forward to your answers!!!!

Regards

Answer
Hello,
Sorry i did try to reply yesterday but my internet connection wasn't agree-ing.

Thats awesome that you have this going on, ive never heard of this before, but as they are both species of cichlids it was always possible, but they are both stunning fish so you never know and as i say they are both species of cichlids there is a possibility that they will spawn succesfully.

Good luck with your fish, there may be more to come =]
