Question

fish's butt
I currently have a red tiger oscar. I got him about a month ago, he has grown a lot since i got him. he is about 3 inches and seems to love life. I noticed a week or two ago he had a swollen butt so i thought it might be constipation. 2 days ago i noticed a red thing protruding a millimeter or so from his butt (picture). i noticed at one point it was bigger and looked like the frayed tip of yarn. They only thing i could find on the internet was camallanus worms. Have u had any experience with this worm? What is ur opinion on my fishes issue? any recommended treatment?
sorry my camera is not very good.

Thanks, Josh

Answer
Josh,

Yes I would have to agree with you on this one. If your fish is eating you can try medicated food. Get one that says it helps with parasites. If that doesn't work, then you can try Levamisol. You might have to go to a vet to get it but it works really well. If you are seeing the worms coming out then they are in advance stages and any other fish in the tank has them as well. Follow the directions on the Levamisol container and it should take care of the problem. Make sure you medicate the entire tank.
