it is virtually impossible to sex goldfish, but there is a slight difference, the males should have dark spots on their gills. or they look enflamed.

Yes Goldfish especially like romaine lettuce not iceberg lettuce which contains nothing nutritious so it is better to feed romaine lettuce.
