Question
hi chris,
greetings! please help me i dont know what to do...i got a blackmoor and a ryukin for than a year now and few months ago i added a bottom feeder on the group...it seems doing fine but a few days ago i noticed that my blackmoor is just sitting at the bottom and it only swims if i feed them or my ryukin would push him around...yesterday i quarantine my blackmoor for a day and give him a maracyn tablet...he seems fine aftewards...so i put him back to the tank (20 gallon)...what freaking me out is that just tonight i have notice that my blackmoor got a big red bruise on its tummy...( well i am not really sure if it is a bruise (literally)...but it looks like it...scales turn red like blood suck into it...what is wrong with my fish? was this cause of the bottom feeder?
 thanks for the help...i really appreacite it!

Answer
Hi Jen;

It is possible he was injured by the bottom feeder. He needs to be isolated again and given a full course treatment of medicine. One tablet is not going to do it. In order to treat infection it has to be given enough time to do so completely. Leave him in a separate "hospital" tank until the whole length of treatment is finished. Use Maracyn 2 instead of regular Maracyn. Maracyn treats only the outside of the body. Maracyn 2 absorbs inside the fish as well as treating the outside. Change the water in the hospital tank every day, right before adding the daily dose of medicine.

It's possible your moor is a female and the ryukin is a male trying to breed. Sometimes the female can be injured that way. If the bottom feeder is bothering her at the same time, no wonder she is sick. Poor thing. I hope she/he feels better soon.....
