Crown tail Beta fish

Question
Just got a crown tail beta after our other beta died (3 years old).  He seemed fine for a week. I changed his tank and put him in one which had a lid (because we have 2 cats). That evening he started jumping through the water. I am guessing he maybe hit the lid. When we woke up in the morning he was dead.  Any ideas other than knocking him self out?

I suppose it's possible he hurt himself. Poor guy. It's really hard to say. Just make sure there is an air space between the lid and water surface. Bettas need to take gulps of air every few minutes or they drown.
