black moore fish

Question
I got a black moore fish about a year ago from someone who did not take care of him.  He is in a ten gallon tank and I change about half of the water every two weeks or so and put in a new filter about once a month.  He was floating upside down from time to time and someone at the fish store told me to feed him shrimp so I do that whenever he looks like he is having a problem.  My problem is that for the last four days he has been floating upside down on the bottom of the tank and nothing I do seems to help him.  He he just sick or going to die?  Is there anything I can do to help him?

Answer
Hi Amber;

I'm so glad you rescued him! You have been doing a great job caring for him. It sounds like he has a swim bladder problem that has been aggravated by constipation. It is quite common in moors and other "chubby" types of fancy goldfish. Here is a link to information about it;

I hope he feels better soon....
