Question
QUESTION: Hi,
how do i know if my fry are free swimmers and can be fed brine shrimp?
it has been 13 days since they hatched and they just swim for a bit and just drop to the ground.

ANSWER: Hi Brendon,
They must be free swimming by now.  Feed them baby brine shrimp, and you will see them swim for the food.

QUESTION: What does it look like when they are free swimjing?
do they swim around the tank because they aren't they just stay near there pit?
ill try to feed them some brine shrimp and see what happens.
how many blocks of them should i give because my baby brine shrimp are frozen?

Answer
Hi Brendon,
You will have to judge how many blocks you must give by the number of fry you have.  You will see how much they will eat with one block.  Make sure they are all getting enough to eat, and do your water changes daily.  You must feed the fry 4 times a day.  This is very important, and you must do water changes everyday so that your water chemistry remains perfect.  Always use a good water conditioner.
Once you see the fry moving, you know they are free swimming.  The parents keep guarding them, so they cannot go very far...when little fish goes astray, one of the parents brings them back, but soon they will get bigger, and go further, and further away, until they can swim all over the tank.  This may take up to 10 days, maybe less.  The parents, are very good parents, so don't be alarmed if you see them picking up the fry with their mouth.  They are not eating them, they are bringing them back to the pits they have made for them.  The parents can remain with their fry until they are ready for the market.  They will not harm them.
I hope this will help.
