Question

Lump Bigger of Left Si
Hello I have an Oscar Tank that has 2 12" O's and 1 5 to 6" Pleco. The Live in 125g Tank. I had this bid Ideal to Save money and bought a roll of the Filter rap for my HOB Filters. I have been changing the water every Sunday. I got busy so I asked my Wife to do it for me 6 Months ago. I thought she was doing it at least every 2 Weeks untill I noticed that my 5 Year old female Red Oscar not acting right. She was not as active as she use to be and had a Lump on her Sides that were Equal on both sides in size. Like she swallowed an Egg.

I started to do testing on the water and noticed one of the Bio wheels wasn't turning. So I thought that was some of my reason my Water Quality was like the tank wasn't Cycled. The Holes in the tube was stopped up that turn the Bio Wheels with the Charcoal. So I decided to go out and buy a brand new HOB Filter and then wait untill like a month and replace the other one.

My Water Tested as Follow
Ph: 7.2ppm
Amonia: 0.50 - 1.0ppm
Nitrites: 0ppm
Nitrates: 0ppm

Water Changes we 80% with a gravel Vac ever Sunday untill the last 6 months. My wife was doing them every 4 to 6 weeks

Now my question is Can the Lump be from the loose Charcoal and the fish eat it or does it sound like something else ?
All input would be Appriciated

Thank You
Greg

Answer
Hi Greg,
The lump COULD be from loose gravel -- oscars will eat lots of things -- but I would be surprised if that was the cause.  Does the lump get larger and smaller with time or is it pretty constant?

It could be many things: a tumor, blocked intestine, blocked ovaries, ...
