re betta mating

Hi again
  
  My bettas are now in the same tank.  Its been a few hours.  In the begining they were gentle.  Then a few seconds later they did the infamous betta dance.  Then he started to nip her.  She is still alive, but very inactive.  I know they will nip each other, but to this extent?  Should I seperate them again? The male still attends to the nest .  Please Help!!!

I think you should only take the male out of the tank so that the female can lay her eggs when the time comes. Till then take the female out so that the male can tend to the bubbles. Siamese fighting fish tend to fight.
