Question
I bought two full grown Dempseys from the pet store a few months ago and put them in my tank with the rest of my exsiting fish. Today I notice that there were hundreds of fry swimming in the tank. I don't know how to go about keeping my tank. Will the fry be eaten, and if not how do I care for them?

Answer
Hi Chris;

The parents are very good at caring for their young so you could leave them alone for a couple of weeks. The babies will eat the same food as the other fish. Just crumble it up small. You may want to remove the babies to their own tank once the parents start to lay more eggs though. The parents will get very aggressive towards your other fish while breeding too. It would be helpful to set up an additional tank for the parents to live alone and raise babies. If you don't want more tanks and don't have a place for the babies once they get bigger, just let nature take it's course. Most or all of the babies will be eaten by the parents or other fish eventually.
