QuestionI have a 55 gallon fish tank with several cichlids in it which all seem to be healthy. I have a turquoise severum cichlid that looks like he has a pink fleshy sore on his anus. He swims vertical & is very docile. I wasn't sure if there was a treatment for this without endangering my other fish. Can you help me with this?
AnswerHi Sarah,
Unfortunately that is typically a sign of an intestinal infection. That sort of thing is very difficult to treat. You would probably be best to isolate that fish in another tank. There are various medications that claim to treat intestinal infections, but I have had little success with any of them. One remedy that some people try is to feed their fish thawed frozen peas. This roughage can help to clear out the digestive tract.
