Tank Mates for Angel Fish

Question
Hi Will~
My newest inquiry is regarding possible tank mates for my adopted bonded Angel fish.  Presently, they are rooming with blood parrots, a common pleco and red tail shark (I wrote you regarding him and possible ICK.  he is doing fine and presently munching on some canteloupe the pleco was eating)

Anyway, back to my question.  I have been waiting to move the Angels into a 55 gal tank after it has completely cycled, and it should be done doing so soon.  I want to get them some tank mates when it is cycled, and want to get your take on my possibe choices for them.

I have a single clown loach in my 40 gal tank, and I adore her and her antics. So, I was considering getting a few for the 55 gal tank.  I understand that clowns do well in schools, but because of their potential full size, I am hesitant to get a large school of them.

I am wondering if a small school of 3 or 4 would be alright?

If so, would they be alright with the pair of Angels in a 55 gal?

I would also like to add a pleco to that tank eventually, as well.  I really enjoy my common pleco and her personality (but she is staying with my Blood Parrots in heir 60 gal); yet their size is too big for me to acquire another one.  I am interested in either getting a smaller pleco for the 55 gal or transferring one that I already have. I have a juvenile Gold Nugget in my 29 gal tall tank (who I rarely see out of the cave) but I understand that the Gold Nugget can become very territorial to other bottom feeders (and right now it is housed with 3 Corydoras. I am concerned that once it reaches adulthood that I may need to rehouse it in a tank that has more bottom space to avoid conficts).
Would I be able to house the Gold Nugget with a few Clowns and the pair of Angels in the 55 gal?  Or should I do just the Gold Nugget, and forget about getting the clowns to avoid conflicts?

And finally, what kinds of plants would do well with the Angels?  I have plastic plants, but really hate them and only use them in my 60 gal with my blood parrots  (due to their constant redecorating efforts). My other tanks have live plants, which my fish and I enjoy much more (though there is the added upkeep, it is well worth it both for my enjoyment and for the health/sanity of my fish).  Which plants would be suitable for the Angels when they decide to lay eggs?  Something like an amazon sword?

Answer
Hi,
I'm so glad to hear that your shark is doing better. Believe it or not, I actually have all of those fish (minus the parrots) in a nicely planted 110 gallon tank. Every thing you listed would be fine, as long as you made sure to add them slowly, keep lots of hiding places, and overkill filtration.

I'm not really a plant expert, but I can tell you that java fern is a beautiful plant you could use. If would even be ok with your parrot fish, as I keep it with stingrays and peacock bass. I will look into some more plant options for you, so ask me about it in a few days and i should have some more answers for you.
