Parrot fish pregnant?

23 11:01:41

Question
So I have two parrot fish n about a couple weeks ago I Notices they dug this like hole n they keep cleaning it out. Then they started to get nasty with the other fish when they came around this rock and the hole. Then my mom said maybe there pregnant so I looked up how to tell. My one fish got really big n the other has a red (bright) red neck. When I explained it to the guy at a really fish store not petco or petsmart he said it sounded like they are. Well I can't really clean the tank bc the fish attacks my hand. This has been going on for about three weeks can you tell me if they are in fact pregnant or what's goInt on because I want to put my other fish back in the same tank. I have a 30 gallon tank, when I got my parrot fish they were baby's only about 7 months since I got them there not as big as the adult ones just yet.

Answer
Hi Shelby,
Actually parrot cichlids cannot get pregnant as such.  They lay eggs, they do not give birth to live young (which is what being pregnant is about).   So, while they cannot be pregnant, it is possible that they have laid some eggs which have now hatched and they are guarding the babies.
