Question
QUESTION: Hi i have a 65gal and i have 4 rbp that ae 5 to 8inch i was thinking on getting 3 med tiger oscar i have 2 red tail sharks that are fully grow that they havent touch in months and a 3inch black convic so should i get the med tiger oscars Thanks Jimmy

ANSWER: Hi Jimmy,
An Oscar needs a 55 gallon tank just for himself.  Two Oscars you must double that, three oscars triple that, and so on.  If you keep an Oscar in a tank which is too small for him, or is overstocked, his growth will be stunted, his internal organs will have no place to grow, and eventually he will die.  The Oscar is one of the most mistreated fish on the market.  Vendors do not give good information, so the Oscar pays the price with his life.  This is a sin, as they are so intelligent, and make a wonderful pet when treated the right way.
One red tail shark needs a 30 gallon tank, 2 a 60 gallon tank, and so on.  Fish must have room to swim, and be comfortable.  An overstocked tank, will cause stress and disease, and many fish lose their life.
So, my answer to this question is no, I'm sorry, you cannot put an Oscar in your tank.
If you have any other questions on the Oscar, please do not hesitate to write me.

QUESTION: Hi just woundering if you know how to fix fom fish ubbing i have used parsite jugle pills and used ick nothing seems to b helping what can i do to stop them fom rubbing and what is it from thanks Jimmy

ANSWER: Hi Jimmy,
If your fish are rubbing, and have no signs of ick (ick is like salt on a fish,) it could be your water chemistry.  Check your water for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates.  Also check your PH.  If you do not have these tests, bring a sample of your water to the pet store, and they will check these for you.  Water changes of 25% are very important weekly.  If you have any of these in your water, you will have to do water changes to get rid of it.  It could also be due to the food you are feeding them, and they find it difficult to digest.
It isn't good to use medication unless you are really sure your fish have ick.  The rubbing could be due to many other things, but the main ones are mentioned above.  Check your water, and if your water chemistry is right, then write back to me to tell me what they are eating, and if they have any clapped fins, or ragged fins so I can help you more.

Answer
Hi Jimmy,
Fish do need space to swim, and we must try our best to make our tanks look like their habitat as much as possible.  Vary their diet, with a good quality flake, and presoaked pellets, bloodworms etc.  Feed them twice a day in small qualities.  This is better than one big meal.  Feed them frozen cooked peas once a week, and on the day you feed them the peas, feed them nothing else.  Always remove the outer layer of the pea.  This is to help them with their digestive system, and prevent Swim Bladder Disease.
Never use medication until your know for sure that they are sick.  Write to us if you see signs of sickness.  This usually starts with fins, and tails being ragged, red gills, white patches, or ich that looks like salt, and even maybe a lack of oxygen, so make sure your fish have enough oxygen in their water.  Make sure the the filter splashes water into the tank, making water movement.  Air stones can also be added.  There is no medication for rubbing until you see that they are showing symptoms of a disease.
I hope this helps.
