Question
Hi and thanks in advance
I have 4 (the heron got one) and comets in a 750 litre garden pond. All survived the winter fine and the waterfall ran the whole time. Just recently on of the calico shubunkins has lost a lot of red/orange and got seriously rotund, the others look as per normal. What's the chance this one is pregnant. no idea of their age as bought from a local pond centre. No other fish in the pond seem distressed in any way,,,Can you help?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Lorna,
A goldfish cannot get pregnant as such because they do not give live birth, they are egg layers with external fertilization.  It is possible that she is full of eggs that she is planning on laying.
