Question

Are They Boys Or Girls
I purchased two grayish white "supposedly" 2 month old Zebra Finches, about 2 weeks ago.  Their beaks are booth the same, an orangy red. I bought them because they were being severely picked on by the other zebra finches in the pet store, and had both lost a lot of feathers.  Once home, and in their beautiful 18L by 14w by 27h inch cage, and ate all the foods I could find for great health and vitality, they grew back 90% of their feathes already.  They sleep together in their little basket at night and all seemed well, until yesterday when they started fighting. I am wondering if they are two boys or are they two girls?  And, would that be the reason for the fighting?  I worry that the feathers will fly again.  Is there ny other way to sex them?  And, at such a young age, when will I know what sex they are?  Do two males fight when together?  Or will two girls?  HELP!!!!!

Answer
From what I can tell both are girls. Male zebras have orange cheek patches on their faces. I find a good way to stop the bickering is to get them males and then separate the pairs. As long as you have picked two boys that aren't aggressive, this should solve the problem.
The one thing that concerns me is their age. They look young but two months is BARELY old enough to be separated from their parents. This is solved by getting males as close to their age (they're too young to breed so don't worry about that yet)as possible. I don't recommend getting the boys from a pet store. Go with a breeder, you're more likely to get the right ones and sometimes the breeders will even give you info on how to care for your bird.
If you do want babies in the future, go with white zebra males if you can. If you don't care about babies at all, any boy of any color will do.
