female eating feathers

Question
I just bought my first pair of zebra finches two days ago. The female is plucking feathers from the back of the male's head, he now has a bald spot there. But I have watched her eat them as she plucks them. If it was just anxiety/nerves would she be eating them? They were not a pair at the pet store, the girl got one from one cage and one from another. Thanks.

Answer
Every now and then birds do develop this habit. It's not the feathers she's eating but the blood. I had a pair of zebras do that as well. What you're supposed to do is give them a small amount of iodized salt (no more than your pinky nail).
As long as she isn't chasing him around and he isn't being hurt (they don't seem to mind having their feathers pulled for some odd reason) I wouldn't worry about it.
