QuestionI have a two year old ball python who I am having some difficulty with. Recently I noticed a change in his skin, he has always had rough sheds as long as I have had him but this time it is really bad and I am not sure what to do. He still has his eye caps and will not let me remove them. I have soaked him in warm water several times but they won't come off, also, while he is soaking, I hear what sounds like wheezing. I haven't noticed any change in his personality (since ball pythons really don't have one) but I am getting concerned. This all started after a window was left open by his cage. Could he have an upper respiratory infection and if so, what can I do to help him?
AnswerThis snake needs a vet who needs to get the eye caps off asap or the snake could go blind or lose its eyes completely. The wheezing does sound like a respiratory infection which normally happens when there is a problem with the way the snake is housed or husbandry. Either way a vet visit asap is in order as he will probably need medication. Good luck
