My snake wont shed

Question
hi, I have a Durango King Snake about 1yr old. I had bought him about 2 months ago and he hasn't shed for me yet. I was wondering if it was possible that he might not shed (stunted growth)? I've tried just about everything, but yet I still see  no signs except i think the scales are a bit glossier. Any advice is much appreciated, Thank You.

Answer
Hi Mark
First of all....don't worry just yet!!! :-)  Snakes shed anywhere between 4-12 times a year. Baby snakes do shed more frequently but once they hit that "year" mark they slow way down. Especially in winter when they are less active and not eating as much. Shedding problems are more frequent in the winter when the heater is used and there is a lack of humidity. A "humidity box" can be placed in the cage of snakes in dry conditions or those with a history of shedding problems (which your's doesn't have just yet). Use a plastic food storage, shoe or sweater box of appropriate size for the snake. Cut an entry hole in the lid of the box and fill it with damp but not wet sphagnum moss from a nursery. If the moss drips when it is wrung out it is too wet. Additional water may have to be added to the moss as evaporation occurs. The snake will use the box as a hiding place. It will help in shedding.
Also...one of my kingsnakes is a year old and doesn't shed but every 2-3 months.  So don't worry :-) Hope this helped and thanks for writing.
