Question
I have had my bearded dragon for about 3 years...here recently I noticed that he is sleeping throughout the whole day...all he does is lay in the corner and sleep...i try to feed him but he eats a little and then goes back to the corner to sleep...Is this normal or is something wrong with him? I was told that they go into hibernation stage but how long does that last...any information you can give me will be helpful...Thanks Amanda

Answer
Hi Amanda,
You are correct on the hibernation..the term for the bearded dragons is "Brumation".
It can last for MONTHS!!!  Some will wake up now and then to eat a bit of greens...do keep the insects away at this time though.  Some will wake up their dragons every so often to give them a bit of water with an eye dropper. http://www.biology.lsa.umich.edu/research/labs/ktosney/file/BDbrumate.html  has a very good article on it.
The insects are what we try to get passed through their system before they "take their naps" in prep for breeding season/laying eggs, Which is why they brumate. Of course if he is acting like he is sick,  has loose, or smelly "poops" then a vet check up is neede.  Hope this has helped you out and if you don't understand something..give a shout!!
