Question
i was planting some flowers around a pond i just put in and about a foot under the ground i found a baby turtle(about the size of a half dollar)it was march well after being freaked out. i put the turtle down(i wanted to make sure i hadnt hurt it with the shovel)the turtle burrowed back into the dirt. now im afraid to finish planting. when will the turtle(s?) be done hibernating? i live in bartow county georgia

Answer
Hi Janel, Lol,  It is a a bit startling to suddenly see something moving in the dirt isn't it! They usually come out of hibernation in April or May, depending on the temperature. A few warm days in a row will often trigger it. I'm sorry that I can't be any more precise then that but I applaud you for your concern for the little guy.
