Question
I have recently brought this frog. They told me to put a heat mat on the back of the tank to provide a temperature of about 80 degrees. This however did not allow the tank to reach the desired temperature. We then read that you could place the tank on a viv if u have one to help with the temperature. we have done this and the temperature in the tank above the soil substrate is 80 degrees. We have however spoke to the petshop man who told us we may have to purchase a different heat mat with a higher wattage?? What would you advise us to do as the frog seems very happy and is feeding well but it obviously cannot tell us if the temperature is not correct. Many Thanks.

Answer
Hello Naomi,

The temperature sounds like it is fine.  What type of thermometer are you using to measure the temps with?
Usually an undertank heater used in combination with a low wattage basking bulb is recommended.  A low output UVB light is also helpful.  A good one would be the Reptiglo 8 or the Reptisun 5 tube bulbs.
What size of tank do you keep him in?  I think the heat mat that you are using, is perfectly fine right now.
Can you show me a picture of his setup?
