Question
hi i am a 14 year old kid and i have a nile monitor at home its a baby but my mom's friend told us that the sheddings of reptiles can cause cancer to us humnans so if u can please answer if it does cause cancer to us humans..??? thanks :)

Answer
No, lizard shed does not cause cancer.  The only health issues that can happen to humans is Salmonella, but good handwashing after handling the lizard, or his shed or tank furnishings will prevent that easily, and possible allergic reactions from dust that can occur as old shed disintegrates.  The smaller the scale, the higher the chance of this dust.  The shed will clue you in on scale size.  I've only known one person to develop such an allergy, and that was to a green iguana.
