Question
hi we've got a nine month old dutch bunny. He's always been very friendly and gets spoilt rotten. But recently he seems to adopt me as his girlfriend and gets rather excited around me. Is this normal and will it pass? We dont want to have him neutered but is there anything you could recommend. Thanks

Answer
This is normal for unneutered males, and it most likely will not pass. The only way to fix a problem like that is to get a rabbit neutered. Sometimes giving a male a female to mate with will help, but please read below for more on that topic.

I do have to ask why you don't want to get him neutered. Are you a show breeder? If not, I would HIGHLY recommend getting him neutered.

Neutering prevents all chance of him getting testicular cancer. It will help with your current problem.

If you are not wanting to neuter because you want babies (and are not a show breeder), consider this:

1. There are already a ton of unwanted pet quality purebred and crossbred rabbits.

2. If you are wanting to do it so your children can see the miracle of birth, keep in mind that birth is not clean or easy. Mothers do sometimes eat their babies alive; something could go wrong with the birth resulting in either dead babies, a dead mother, or both; and babies grow up and need good homes.

3. If you are expecting to sell babies to make money, don't bother. Honestly, with the time and money put into a litter, you won't make anything. Even commercial rabbit breeders, with females that produce large litters almost every single time, etc., most do not make a very good profit.
