introducing two male pigs

Question
Hi Andy,

I just today introduced my new male pig to my male I already had. I think they are about the same age, based on their sizes (maybe 8-10 months old) They have not got into a fight, and have been doing the basic chasing, rumbling, etc.  And my original pig seems like he will be top pig. They seem to settle down, eat some hay, and even sit next to each other, but then usually my 1st pig starts up with the new guy again. Will this keep on going about like this? And how long does this usually last? They have been together about 6 hours with no major fighting, just a few nips here and there, and the other things I said. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. Lynn, Carmine, and Fredo

Answer
Hi Lynn

Based on the fact that your two pigs are both adults, you are very fortunate that they are not fighting. You are exactly right, they are going through the process of deciding which pig is going to be the "boss".

When I have introduced males, the behavious lasts for just a couple of days so they should settle down fairly shortly. If you do have any problems though, please let me know.
