Question
Hi my 5 month old female piggie has been drinking alot more than usual and peeing alot. tonight when i changed her cage and had her in her holding area we noticed that her urine when she tinkled was cream colored.  this has never happened before. she has carefresh bedding and gets fresh timothy grass and kaytee fiesta guinea pig diet daily(1/2C).  she is not acting strange in any way nor does she appear to be uncomfortable. She is the only piggie in the cage and she shows no signs of discomfort when she urinates.  Nothing has changed in her diet.  also she gets fresh spinch and carrots from time to time throughout the day.  What could this be?  I am very concerned and do not want anything to happen to her. She was my Mothers day gift from my 3 y.o.. Also her name is Peeahhgee.  thanks

Answer
Hello Michele,

Peeahhgee is fine. She is simply expelling excess calcium that's in her diet. It is normal and typically not a problem. Too much calcium can cause bladder stones so you'll need to watch for signs of those (blood in her urine, not urinating, painful urination, etc). Most piggies get rid of extra calcium without a problem though and her creamy urine isn't something to worry too much about. If it becomes too thick and crystalized or too frequent though, then she'll need to have her calcium intake reduced and possibly see a vet to insure there are no stones forming.
