Citronella or lavender essential oil

I'm reading a book about taking care of my guinea pigs. It said some guinea pigs can die when blowflies lay their eggs in dirty or very long hair (like mine's). If you put your guinea pigs outside in summer, you can wipe their rear ends with citronella or lavender essential oil to keep the blowflies away. Do I need to buy lavender oil for my guinea pig, she is an Abyssinian one.

as long as you keep the living area clean it should be ok. The flys lay their eggs in the poo that gets matted around the piggys bums where they cannot clean themselves.
Citronella s best for keeping the flies away.
Just make sure that everywhere is always clean and you should be ok
