Question
hello, i have an issue.. i have had a few guinea pigs in my time..ive had scamp for a couple of years now and i got him when he was an adult they said..hes always been healthy and active..today we went to walk out the door and scamp had some blood on his nose.i said hmm i pulled him out and he/she was covered in it.. my husband helped me to bathe scamp {needed to check for ouchies} and afterwards everything looked normal.. we came home tonight and there is another puddle in scampers cage.. scamp is eating and drinking and using the potty.. right now we are broke and cant get him to the vet..im stumped as to what might be causing this.. i was wondering if anyone can tell me what this might be,, thanks littlebear

Answer
There is not much you can do other than take him to a vet. First you have to find out where the blood is coming from, look all over his body, even under the hair, and in his mouth. If nothing looks like the cause there then it must be internal bleeding. Slimy thick blood is usually from the intestinal tract, watery blood mixed with a water-like substance is usually from the urinary tract. Does he have softer poop or diarrhea? If so it is most likely intestinal, which I can give you some things to try. Urinary tract requires antibiotics from a vet, so there is not much you can do for that.
