Question
I have had guinea pigs [[cavies]] for many many years. But there has been one question that always bothered me. I could never figure it out. Okay, so, I started off off with one abissinian cavy, then i brought home an american cavy. Then one day i notice a few little heads bobbing around the gage. I had no idea that they were of different genders. But my question to you is: Why do they come out looking 90 percent like the dad. I have since had five or so litters. {well, the cavies). And every time, none of them come out looking like the american mom. What is all that about?????

oh. and i am 15 turning 16 dec. 7. you know. And already i am pretty much so an EXPERT:}.

Answer
Hi Chelsea

That is a question I have never been asked on here before.

Some breeds have more dominant genes than others so that is why the father's gene in terms of colour etc is more evident in the babies than the mothers gene.

You should put yourself forward to be a piggy expert. I get loads of questions each day and would be grateful for the help. :)
