Question
Hi, my name is Beth, and I have just recently brought my class pet
home - a guinea pig.  I just have a couple of questions that I am
wondering about.  I've taken him home once before, but that was on a
weekend.  This time I've taken him home for Christmas break, a full 2
weeks, and I'm worried I'm going to like, kill him.
First of all, last time I took him, my parents complained that his cage
stank, no matter if I cleaned it and scrubbed it or not.  I'm wondering
how to, if possible, eliminate that odor.  Second of all, I'm confused on
how to wash him, because to be honest, he reeks.  And lastly, do
Guinea pigs like being in jacket pockets?  Because, he climbed into my
hooded sweatshirt pocket and he ate a couple of the carrots I had in
there, but then he started squeaking and I tried to get him out, but he
wanted to stay in.  (He's out right now.)
Help?

Answer
Is his water dripping in the cage and keeping the bedding wet?  If so, this could be causeing the oder.  In which case you can place a bowl under the area where the water bottle hangs for it to catch any water that drips.  Then just keep the bowl emptied.  You can wash him once a week at most and use baby shampoo.  Just wash him as you would wash yourself but becareful not to get water in his ears, eyes and nose.  As for your jacket, they usually love dark places.  So that may be why he didn't want to come out.  Sounds like he is just a very active cavy!  :)  If you need more help just let me know.
