epileptic guinea pig?

Question
Hi! We have a young male guinea pig. He popcorns, runs laps, his fur is sleek and glossy, he loves his veg and he seems happy/healthy. Tonight he was out munching pellets and he suddenly fell over onto his back and started waving his legs - it looked very much like convulsions/seizure!!! It's the second time that I have seen this, in the past three months. Have you ever heard of an epileptic guinea pig? Could it be poisoning? Our water is safe (no lead, new house). My only two thoughts are the red ink from the box he likes to run through (and chew sometimes), or the dandelion greens from our yard (some chemicals?) What do you think? Do I need to rush him to the vet? Could the vet even figure it out? Thank You!!!

Answer
Hello Lucy,
I'm quite sure guiena pigs can have seizures, it could be because of a poison but I would honestly take your guinea pig to a vet and explain what you have experieced and your concerns. Tell him everything you can think of and tell him what he was doing before the seizures happaned. The vet can hopefully figure it out. Does the guinea pig return to normal afterwords? If he can rule out poisons than it could be a neurological problem.
